Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam our ex-President passed away on 27th July 2015 while he was addressing the students of IIM Shillong. The entire nation was stunned beyond words on the passing away of such a great man in such a sudden manner. His body was kept in state in Delhi where Leaders of various hue paid their homage. Thereafter his body was flown to Rameswaram for the last rites as per the wishes of his family members. He was buried on 30th July in Rameswaram. The funeral was attended among others by the PM Shri Narendra Modi, Shri Rahul Gandhi, various Chief Ministers, Leaders of various political parties and other dignitaaries. The day 30th July 2015 was declared a public holiday by the State Govt. All the schools, colleges, State Govt. offices, private establishments were closed. Special buses were arranged from various parts of the State to Rameswaram for the people to pay their last respects to their departed leader.
