J.Jayalalithaa

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Ms. J.Jayalalithaa has been incarcerated. A CBI court on 27th of Sep.2014 convicted her on corruption charges on her disproportionate assets case which was initially filed by Dr. Subramanian Swamy way back in 1996 and later taken up by K. Anbhazagan of the DMK. The case was handled by CBI for these 18 long years judicially meandering and which now has culminated to its rightful conclusion that of convicting Ms.Jayalalithaa. She has been pronounced guilty as she could not give proper explanation for amassing Rs.66 crores while getting a salary of Rs.1 per month during the period of Chief Ministership from 1991 to 1996. She has been awarded  a sentence of 4 years imprisonment and a penalty of Rs.100 crores by Justice Micheal Cunha at the CBI Special Court at Bangaluru thus depriving her of her Chief Ministership and also debarring her from standing for elections for the TN Assembly which is due in May 2016. She and the AIADMK camp were very confident that

Modi's US visit

Modi's five day's visit to the US has been a success in terms of popularity and the message he gave across to the NRI populace and the business persons there that he means business. He was able to successfully carry with him every one with finesse.  His address at the UN General Assembly snubbing the PAK premier without mentioning Kashmir but at the same time extending the olive branch with some thorns in it is to say that Modi was at his best. If all his intentions are translated into actions India I am sure will be a super power.

Kejriwal Dinner

Here is a news item from the Outlook magazine: The AAP's fund raising dinner, in which people could participate after contributing Rs 20,000 per person, is scheduled for March 15 when Kejriwal will hold roadshow in and around the Bangalore ciity, followed by a public rally the next day. A dinner with Kejriwal for Rs.20000/- per person.  Is Kejriwal for aam aadmi or Aamir Aadmi?

Women power

Yesterday I happened to view a programme--Sooriya vanakkam-- in Sun TV. The anchors interviewed 4 women all very ordinary people as part of the International Womens' Day. Two women were auto drivers. One woman is working as a lorry driver and another women Indrani, a person of many parts. She lives in Trichy. She works as a Call taxi driver, Auto Driver, Water woman ie. taking the water cans by vehicle and supplying to shops singly irrespective of the timings, JCB driver besides attending to her children. When she narrated her experiences it was really amazing. I wondered where does this woman find such energy!!! She has made in roads to areas which are dominated only by men folk. Hats of to her courage perseverance and indomitable spirit. When she narrated her experiences every one at the Studio including the anchors were awestuck. Hats off to Indrani!!!. May her tribe increase.

Rajmohan Gandhi

Shri Rajmohan Gandhi the grandson of Rajaji and Mahatma Gandhi is the latest entrant to the AAP. It is unfortunate that Shri Rajmohan Gandhi has compared Arvind Kejriwal to Mahatma Gandhi. As one who was in the forefront in the fight against Emergency in the early seventies and as a Editor of Statesman who took upon the Indira Gandhi Govt., stooping to compare Arvind Kejriwal to Mahatma Gandhi is unfortunate.

Jayalalitha's election strategy

Ms. Jayalalithaa it seems is chasing a dream of becoming the Prime Minister of our country. That is why she has decided to contest all the forty seats in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry leaving the left parties high and dry though initially she talked of alliance with them. There are many ifs and buts before her ambition is fulfilled. Firstly she has to win all the 40 seats which is highly unlikely. Even if she wins all the 40 seats where will the support come for 232 seats for her? Without  considering this reality she seems to be banking on the words of some sycopants and astrologrs.  Instead of chasing an improbable dream she would do well to concentrate on the infrastructure development of our State so that people would ever remember her.

Arvind Kejarwal's attempt

Shri Arvind Kejarwal has been sniping at the Congress time and again so that they may withdraw support and then he can call himself a martyr. He has not been able to fulfil his promises. Free water, cut in electricity bills etc. The independent MLA who had been supporting him has withdrawn his support. Already Binny has broken away from him accusing him of not living upto his promises to the people of Delhi. Somnath Bharati is creating problems for him. His Janata Darbar has been a flop. All his theatrics has not gone down well with the people. He has been attacking all and sundry. The Lt.Governor, Mukesh and Anil Ambani, Sheila Dixit. He has introduced the Jan lokpal bill and has said that he will quit if that bill is not passed. Some how or the other he wants the Congress to withdraw support or else he himself wants to resign on some face saving measure.  The AAP never expected to be in power. Once they have been catapulted to power they do not know what to do. Initially they were a

Aam Aadmi Party

Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) with its unexpected victory in the Delhi Assembly polls is riding high. The party is hoping to ride on his euphoria and make a mark in the General Elections.  Delhi is a small place and has a limited electorate. They should realize that Delhi is not India because our country is vast and pluralistic and what has happened in Delhi cannot be repeated in any of the other states if the AAP contests elections there.  Even in Delhi it is feared that their grandiose plans may come to naught as administration and agitation are different.  An agitator has the licence to say whatever he feels like. But an administrator should always be cautious. Whether Arvind Kejriwal succeeds as an administrator is a moot question. Let us wait and see.
