Justice Chandru retired from the Madras High Court on 8th March 2013. He had written to the Chief Justice that no farewell party should be given to him.  Because lot of money is being spent on farewell parties to judges.  He also did not want to have the ceremonial speeches delivered on the day of his retirement.  On the day of this retirement he went to his home in a suburban train.  A rare breed indeed.
